Wet Mess to Transit Facilities Conversion
CADDS Group worked with all in-house services to complete the reactivation of Peninsula Palms Village in Dampier for Rio Tinto.
Part of the reactivation was to design a transit lounge (consisting of showers, lockers and changerooms) for residents on back-to-back arrangements. Instead of designing a new facility, after inspecting the site we proposed repurposing the old Wet Mess building, as internally it was beyond repair and would need a complete re-build.
Our design gutted the old building internally and created a separate male and female shower, locker and change room. We also designed an overflow room accessible by both the male and female facilities with double-sided lockable doors, which could act as an extension of either the male or female facilities as required by fluctuating user numbers.
This design came in under the budget for the new build and married the client’s preference of an 80/20 split of M/F facilities with the BCA requirements
